But why should this be! It's high time this was put to bed once and for all.Īs V19 approaches I fear work on 18 will cease. The recommended 200MB seems a good choice. There is no doubt that this has to be 0 for rendering with NVEC to complete sucsessfully but if it is left at 0 during editing there are crashes and previewing is not smooth. One thing I am convinced is an issue is the Dynamic Ram Preview setting. Hard drive errors? I tried different drives. Overheating cpu or gpu after a heavy edit? No indication it is but it is just as likely to occur from startup while still cold anyway. How can it be that it can work for hours and then fail. So how can it be the media content, or the hardware? And I can restart and do the same operation again no problem. These hangs are not while adding some unsupported file format or a corrupt video file, this is while working with media that has already be worked on and previewed many times, perhaps it has already been rendered sucsessfully. I do believe if I work more slowly there are less crashes, give a little time for an edit to complete before moving on.

Other editors seem so clunky at the most basic editing level of assmbling and trimming clips on the timeline, cross fades, adding titles, stills etc and I wonder if the very speed at which one can navigate the Vegas timeline, move and trim clips and all while playing a full screen HD preview is part of the trouble. I've got so frustrated lately by these random hangs that I have trialled several other video editors but Vegas is just so efficient to use I cant find one I like. In fact I copied a recent project from 18 into 17 just so i could get it finished.

In 17 it was fixed after one of the updates and I enjoyed uninteruppted editing until 18 when I was sad to see the problem return. It's hard to pin down but it is always during the most 'basic' timeline editing. Its not just me then! Yes I get random hangs - a white screen and 'program not responding' error, but if previewing at the time the audio continues. Just mentioning it now because I'm tired of dealing with it!ĭoes anyone else have similar hangs when editing?

And yes the auto save can be of help but is usually a few operations behind.īTW, this has happened with every version of Vegas Pro I have used (15, 17 and 18) and every update on those version across several different workstations platforms, all Windows 10, up to date at the time, Intel i7-3700k, i7-6700K, i7-8700k (current) with 16-32GB of memory, some using just the Intel HD Graphics and also with an AMD RX560 and an RX580. My normal workflow for a while now with Vegas is to save after every edit operation. Somedays it will rarely happen - once or twice in a 4-5 hour session, other days it seems to happen every few minutes, at least for a while. Sometimes it happens in the crop/pan window when adding points.

Or dropping a photo on a video track, or even just after a mouse trim on a clip.

It normally happens after an easy edit, for example adding a crop to a clip and next operation hangs. While hung (spinning circle) clicking on the close x on the Vegas window a couple of time will cause a "Vegas has stopped working" error. When this happens the mouse cursor turns into an arrow with the spinning little circle and it will never stop (waited 15-20 minutes a couple of times) During editing Vegas Pro will randomly hang. This has been happening to me since my first use of Vegas Pro (version 15).
